Personal Observations

Teaching Games for Understanding Model:

Based on the information gathered from teachers and students I devised the following strengths associated with participation in the Teaching Games for Understanding Model:

1.      Inclusive: All students were actively involved in the activities regardless of ability and skill level

2.      High sense of enjoyment among students

3.      High participation levels among students

4.      Develops higher order thinking and problem solving skills

5.      Student-centred learning

Traditional Model:

Based on the information gathered from teachers and students, I devised the following disadvantages associated with participation in the Traditional Teaching Model:

1.      Low student involvement: Students tended to lose interest as they were waiting around in lines to participate. This subsequently led to student boredom and misbehaviour.

2.      Confusion: Students failed to understand and effectively perform one of the designated drills as it was too complicated for the level & ability of most students.

3.      Information overload: Students were overloaded with information by the teacher and were therefore unable to effectively process what was required of them. As a result, students were constantly questioning the teacher, which in turn delayed the session.
